Governance

Leading inclusion from the top.

Every club needs solid foundations: a set of shared values that together create clear policies and strategy. These “club fundamentals” keep your environment safe, fair, and welcoming for everyone — including people with disability.

Your policy and strategy documents are so much more than pieces of paper. Clear policies and strategic plans are documents that can help guide everyday activities, ensuring that decisions are aligned with club values. They are an effective way of showing commitment to disability inclusion, where your club sets the tone and leads by example in your community.

But strategy and policies only matter if they’re lived out in practice.

Imagine a club that says it’s inclusive but ignores feedback or overlooks barriers to participation. Now, imagine one where the committee listens, adapts, and follows through – where members feel heard and supported. That’s what builds trust, loyalty, and growth.

So, the big question is, how can you write strategies and policies where disability inclusion is thoroughly embedded? And how can you ensure they are carried out in everyday life?
