People make inclusion possible
Disability inclusion starts with people. It’s about the attitudes, behaviours, and culture that every coach, volunteer, and committee member helps to shape. When your people feel confident, supported, and informed, inclusion naturally becomes part of everyday club life.
So how can you empower your people to drive inclusive practices in your club? It often starts with being open to learning — and creating opportunities to hear from different voices. For example, are people with disability or lived experience represented on your committee? Do coaches and volunteers receive disability awareness training as part of their onboarding? Do you actively welcome feedback from people with disability in your day-to-day activities?
Attitudes and behaviours don’t change overnight. But by encouraging and empowering your people to apply a disability-inclusive lens to everything they do, everyone can help build a truly inclusive club culture.
